Parrying lets you block part of a blow with a shield. It does nothing without a shield in your hand.
How a parry works
Your shield has a rating that depends on your skill and the shield:
shield rating = Parrying × the shield’s armour rating ÷ 200 + 1
The shield’s armour rating drops as it wears down.
Your chance to parry each blow is:
parry chance = (Parrying − 2 × shield rating) ÷ 100, at least 1%
A parry takes half the shield rating off a melee blow. Against an arrow, it takes the whole rating off.
Parrying is checked for a gain on every blow you take while holding a shield.
Shields
| Shield | Armour rating | Weight (stones) |
|---|---|---|
| Buckler | 7 | 5 |
| Wooden shield | 8 | 5 |
| Metal shield | 11 | 6 |
| Metal kite shield | 16 | 7 |
| Heater shield | 23 | 8 |
A shield can’t be used with a two-handed weapon. After a parry the shield has a 25% chance to wear a little.
No trader sells shields yet.
