Aldermere

The land around Highmarch as it stands in the playtest build, its roads, and the day and night clock.

Last updated

This page describes today's playtest build. Values may change during playtests.

Aldermere is the land of the last lit shard. The playtest build holds one region of it: the country around the capital, Highmarch.

Size

The region is 1.4 km on each side. Running at 5 metres a second, you cross it in under 5 minutes. Walking is 1.8 metres a second.

The lay of the land

  • Highmarch stands walled in the middle west of the region.
  • The sea runs along the whole west edge, with a dock and a river mouth on the coast.
  • The river comes down from the northern hills, runs south past the east side of town, then bends west below it and meets the sea. Three bridges cross it.
  • The farmland rings the town walls.
  • The woods cover the east and south, with a small copse in the north-west.
  • The northern hills rise above the town, with the mine, the lookout and a cave.
  • The graveyard lies outside the west gate.

The coast

The dock sits on the west coast, a pier of about 34 metres with a warehouse beside it. South of it, the river mouth is marked on the map as a fishing spot. Boats and fishing aren’t in the build yet. See Ships and the sea.

Day and night

  • A full day in Aldermere lasts 60 real minutes.
  • The sun rises at 05:45 and sets at 20:00, game time.
  • A mist lies over the river and the woods around dawn and burns off by 09:00.
  • There’s no weather yet.

Animals behave the same by day and by night. Some spawners only run by day or by night. See Creatures of Aldermere.
