This page describes today's playtest build. Values may change during playtests.

Highmarch is the capital of Aldermere and the first stop for every soul that crosses over. The in-game map still labels it “The capital”.

Walls and gates

The town sits inside an eight-sided stone wall about 270 by 245 metres, with square towers at the corners. The wall is 7 metres high.

Four gates stand open:

  • The east gate is the main gate, 8 metres wide. New characters start on the road just outside it.
  • The west gate leads to the dock and the graveyard.
  • The north gate leads to the mine road.
  • The south gate leads to the south bridge and the woods.

Each gate has a guard post. Guards don’t act against attackers yet.

Streets and quarters

  • The high street is cobbled and runs east to west between the east and west gates.
  • The crown street runs south to north between the south and north gates.
  • The ring lane runs just inside the wall.
  • Back lanes split the town into four quarters: north-west, north-east, south-west and south-east. The quarters don’t have names yet.

Most of the town is houses. There are about 260 of them. Player housing isn’t in the build. See Housing.

The market square

The market square is where the high street and the crown street cross. It has eight market stalls and the town well. Two traders work on the square itself: Tobin the fletcher and Wenna the tanner.

See Traders and trainers for what each of them sells and teaches.

Townsfolk

Townsfolk stroll a few metres around their posts and stand still while they serve you. They can’t be harmed, and creatures ignore them.
