This page describes design that isn't in the game yet. Details will change before it ships.
Blacksmithing will be one of the first crafting skills. It turns the ore you mine into the tools and weapons other players use.
What’s planned
- Smelting. Melt ore into ingots at the town forge.
- Forging. Heat, shape and quench metal at the anvil. Your timing and where you strike shape the result, and your skill decides how much you can read from the metal.
- Tools first. Hatchets, pickaxes and knives in all five metals, with better tools working faster or lasting longer.
- Quality and a maker’s mark. Finished pieces carry a quality grade and the name of the smith who made them.
- Weapons and armour after the tools.
- Ore traits. Ore from different veins may behave differently at the anvil.
Tradeskill quests
Crafters get better by making the same thing many times. Tradeskill quests in town will buy those goods, so a smith learning the trade has somewhere to sell a hundred daggers.
What’s in the build today
You can mine all five ores and sell them to Brann the blacksmith. There’s no smelting or forging yet. Brann sells iron tools, weapons and armour from his own stock.
Also planned
Survival is planned as the first crafting skill to be built, with campfires, camping, cooking and hunger and thirst. Other crafts, such as tailoring, carpentry, bowcraft and alchemy, are on the longer list.
