Deer graze in herds in the east and south woods. They come in two kinds: the great hart, with antlers, and the hind. Almost half of all deer are harts.

Behaviour
A deer never starts a fight. It flees from:
- any wolf within 16 metres
- anyone who hurt it in the last 20 seconds, within 28 metres
- a player who targets it within 16 metres
Walking near a deer doesn’t scare it. Targeting or attacking it does.
When one deer bolts, every deer within 12 metres runs too. A flight lasts up to 15 seconds, or longer while the threat stays close.
A deer that’s out of breath with its attacker on top of it is brought to bay. It turns and kicks back. A cornered deer fights too.
Feeding and breeding
Deer graze the grass of their woods. A well-fed deer with a well-fed mate within 20 metres may breed, and a new deer appears. If the grass runs low, the herd moves to a richer wood. See Creatures of Aldermere.
