Armour

The five armour sets, where blows land, how much armour absorbs, and what it costs you in stamina.

Last updated

This page describes today's playtest build. Values may change during playtests.

Armour absorbs part of each blow that lands where it’s worn. Heavier armour protects more, and some of it lowers your stamina.

Where blows land

Body partChance
Chest35%
Legs22%
Head15%
Arms14%
Hands7%
Neck7%

The armour on that part absorbs between half and all of its rating. The rating drops as the armour wears.

Armour sets

Every piece of a set has the same rating.

SetRatingPieces
Leather13Cap, gorget, gloves, sleeves, tunic, leggings
Studded16Gorget, gloves, sleeves, tunic, leggings
Ringmail22Gloves, sleeves, tunic, leggings
Chainmail28Coif, tunic, leggings
Platemail40Helm, gorget, gauntlets, arms, breastplate, legs

Other helmets: the bascinet has a rating of 18. The close helm, helmet and norse helm have 30. None of these is sold yet.

Stamina cost

Some pieces lower your maximum stamina. Everyone has 25 stamina today, so this matters.

PieceStamina
Ringmail gloves, sleeves, leggings−1 each
Ringmail tunic−2
Chainmail leggings−3
Chainmail tunic−5
Plate helm, gorget−1 each
Plate gauntlets, arms−2 each
Plate legs−6
Plate breastplate−8

Less stamina means slower swings. See Weapons.

Strength

Heavier pieces need strength to wear. Everyone has Strength 60 today, enough for any piece. The plate breastplate and legs need exactly 60.

Wear

After a hit, armour has a 25% chance to wear. Crushing weapons (club, war axe, mace, war hammer) wear it by about half the damage it absorbed. Other weapons wear it by 0 or 1.

Prices

Brann the blacksmith sells all five sets. Wenna the tanner sells leather. A leather cap costs 10 and a plate breastplate 243. See Traders and trainers.

Shields

Shields are covered under Parrying.
