This page describes today's playtest build. Values may change during playtests.
Every player in Aldermere is a soul who escaped a dying shard. You arrive with almost nothing. This page covers the steps from the login screen to your first step on the road.
Your account
One account is both your website login and your game login.
- Account names are 3 to 16 letters or numbers, and start with a letter. They aren’t case sensitive.
- In the game, five wrong passwords in a row close the connection.
- An account can only be logged in once at a time.
The game only lets you in once staff have given your account playtest access. Join the playtest list on the website to get in line.
Five character slots
After you log in you see five character slots. Each slot holds one character with its own skills, pack and bank box.
- Pick an empty slot to create a character.
- Pick a used slot to play it or delete it.
- Deleting asks you to type the character’s name. The pack and bank box go with it, and the name becomes free.
Creating a character
Name. 2 to 16 characters: letters, numbers, spaces, apostrophes or hyphens, starting with a letter. Names are unique on the server.
Look. Pick a look with the arrows beside the preview, or press Randomise. The preview wears your starting clothes and holds your starting weapon.
Starting skills. Choose three different skills and split 100 points between them.
- Points go in steps of 5.
- No skill can start above 50.
- The total must be exactly 100.
- Every other skill starts at 0.
The default pick is Fencing 50, Tactics 50 and Anatomy 0. It suits the dagger you start with. Arms Lore can’t be picked. See Skills overview for the full list.
What you start with
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Strength | 60 |
| Dexterity | 25 |
| Hit points | 80 |
| Stamina | 25 |
| Carrying limit | 250 stones |
Worn: a shirt, long pants, shoes and a dagger. Your clothes are dyed from your name.
In your pack: 100 gold, a pouch with 20 more gold, an empty bag, and a copper hatchet, pickaxe and skinning knife.
Your clothes, dagger and three tools are newbie items. They stay with you when you die. Your gold, pouch and bag don’t. See Death and your corpse.
Where you wake
The lore says new souls wake at a tetherstone above Highmarch. The tetherstone isn’t built yet. In today’s build you appear on the road 10 metres outside the east gate of Highmarch.
