Tuning used to mean editing a file and restarting the server. Now I can change the main rules from inside the game while I play.
Changes
- New Settings tab in the admin window. Each setting has a dropdown of sensible presets, shows its default, and has a Reset button.
- Changes apply at once to everyone on the server, and they’re saved so they survive a restart.
- The settings cover:
- stamina regen at rest
- player health regen out of combat
- respawn delay after death
- how long a player’s corpse lasts
- stamina cost of each gathering swing
- how fast trees, rocks and plants grow back
- how long doors stay open
- Two chat commands do the same thing:
.settingslists them and.settingchanges one. - A refused change now snaps the row back to the server’s value.
- The respawn delay is whole seconds, at least 1.
Values I changed
I spent some time in game with the new tab, and two values stuck:
- Resting stamina now comes back 1 point every half second.
- A player’s corpse lasts 15 minutes, up from 8. That’s more time to run back for your things.
I also placed a chapel east of the river and a handful of spawners: three goblin camps, a wolf den and a hind herd near the south bridge. Those are now part of the world.
Gathering
- A harvest that’s refused (no tool, out of reach, nothing left) now shows as a notice. It no longer flashes the work bar.
